This is the hardest page to write, the talking about yourself bit…
Selling your dream to someone else. Well, here goes…. I am Dotty (Amy) the founder of Dotty Herbert’s, a name I choose by putting a bit of me and my family together. Myself and my husband have four children. Grace, Hermione, Daisy and Herbie. I wanted my company name to be something to remind me everything is possible. Using them as my logo, with hard work and determination, I would always fight to make my small business a success.
Dotty – That is me and my Brain – Crazy, inventive, imaginative, original, quirky, bonkers, all a bit Alice in wonderland but kind caring, giving and always wanting to make others feel special and Happy.
Grace – The G on Leaf of the stem of the daisy, this is Grace as she is there under people holding them up trying to keep the peace being the mother- we call her grandma!
Hermione – She is the beginning of the HER-Bert, as she is HER-self, quirky, out there, a clever young woman, bookworm, lone wolf, strong as a cookie, and has had to deal with so much at a young age…… My little Type 1 Hero.
Daisy – The giant white daisy not only her name but everywhere the grass is not cut, flowering the lawns of people’s lives, funny, Crazy and incredibly kind.
Herbie – Well he is just our Bert, holding the nick name Bert, da Herb, Herb, Bright, funny, Nutty, Kind, Caring and a laugh that could make any room smile.
And then there is the heart of Dotty Herbert’s, that is me and my L holding us all together making a crazy family one big happy one, even if there are bumps in our road, we build a flower bridge and get over them.
I have been a florist since I was 14, 26 years learning from one of the best florists I know Tracey Rowbottom. Gold Chelsea medallist and my hero. I worked in Tracey’s shop in Staple Hill, Cherri Burrelle for many years with some fantastic girls who I learnt a lot from. Louise summers as she is now known was amazing taking me under her wing and showing me lots of ropes.
I then worked in schools, mentoring, teaching floristry to children of all ages running fairy garden and floristry clubs, also working with adults with learning difficulties again showing them arts and crafts and floristry.
It was so incredible to watch how they see creativity. I have always said that everyone has at least one creative bone.
I have always loved Creative people pushing them to reach the stars and wanted that to be where I also push myself and my little company.
